The Makings of a Cozy Quilt
Hi there! My name is Sierra, and I am the maker behind this site! This post is going to bring you through the workings of planning, piecing, sandwiching, quilting and binding a quilt. I am not a professional quilter, but rather your hometown enthusiast for all things quilty, and I am excited to show you how I quilt and some of the costs and time that goes into making a quilt!
Planning
Planning a quilt takes skill, creativity, a lot of time, and usually some math! I will be using the Autumn Harvest Quilt pattern from White Plains Quilts (no affiliation, just a quilter trying out a new pattern). Another tried and true company I enjoy using patterns from is Suzy Quilts. I have discovered that free patterns are great, but a paid pattern is well worth the money as well. Here is a link to the pattern: https://www.whiteplainsquilts.com/shop/p/autumnharvestquiltpattern
I have also chosen my fabrics, they are shown below. I picked a main color, and used white as my background. I then chose my coordinating fabrics and colors to compliment the main color. I used a variety of local quilt shops and online shops to select my fabrics. The second photograph with more fabrics, are the solids I tried mixing in, I ended up removing the rust/ochre colored fabric, and the bright pink. The resulting stack was much more cohesive.
Cost for the top fabric in this stage: $100
Cost spent on the pattern: $12
Time spent on planning: 2 hours
